On Sunday, April 23, the 2023 Nikkei Matsuri was held in San Jose Japantown, and Consul General Noguchi delivered remarks during the opening ceremony.
Since 1978, the Nikkei Matsuri festival has showcased the history and cultural heritage of the Japanese American community. This year, the festival featured a variety of cultural performances including San Jose Taiko celebrating its 50th year, demonstrations, exhibitions, and a ‘Fun Run’ by Yu-Ai Kai.
In his remarks, Consul General Noguchi thanked the organizers for holding the festival to preserve Japanese and Japanese American culture and to provide visitors with the opportunity to experience San Jose Japantown, one of three historic Japantowns remaining in the United States. He also encouraged visitors to return and further explore Japantown..
