On Wednesday, August 9, the Human Rights Coalition of the Central Valley held a ceremony at Shinzen Friendship Garden in Fresno commemorating the 78th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. Consul General Noguchi, Honorary Consul of Japan in Fresno Dale Ikeda, local community leaders, and others attended the ceremony. In the Consul General’s remarks, he honored the memory of the many victims who had lost their lives. He also stated that despite the painful shared history, Japan and the United States were closer than ever, in part thanks to the grassroots ties between both countries. To this point, he mentioned the successful 53-year sister city relationship enjoyed by the cities of Fresno and Kochi.
