On Saturday, October 7, Consul General Osumi presented Mr. Paul Isao Osaki, Executive Director of Japanese Community Center for Northern California (JCCCNC), with the 2023 Foreign Minister’s Commendation at a ceremony held during “Tabemasho”, JCCCNC’s 50th anniversary gala.
As the Executive Director of JCCCNC for more than 30 years, Mr. Osaki has dedicated himself to the preservation and promulgation of Japanese culture in Japantown, as well as to the promotion of grassroots level personal exchange between Japan and the U.S. Consequently, he has played a major role in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the U.S. For these achievements, he was awarded this commendation in August of 2023.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with JCCCNC’s annual “Tabemasho” event, with a theme of “Celebrating Generations”, celebrating the Center’s 50th anniversary. Over 400 attendees dined on a wide variety of Japanese food with performances and demonstrations from artists and craftsmen from around Northern California and Japan.
