38th Annual Bell-Ringing Ceremony at the Asian Art Museum
2024/1/4

On Sunday, December 31, Consul General Osumi attended and gave remarks at the 38th Annual Japanese End of Year Bell-Ringing Ceremony hosted by the Asian Art Museum. In his remarks, Consul General Osumi reflected on Japanese New Year traditions and his gratitude that many can be experienced in Northern California. During the event, attendees had the chance to experience a Japanese year-end tradition locally by closing out the past year and ringing in the new on the museum’s bell, which dates back to 16th century Japan.
The ceremony began with a Buddhist purification ritual and chanting by Reverend Gengo Akiba. Consul General Osumi then rang the bell with Museum staff, followed by members of general public, wishing happiness for 2024.
