Sacramento New Year’s Reception The Bounty of Japan: Sake, Scallops, and Sea Cucumber

Remarks from Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi 
On Thursday, January 11, Consul General Osumi hosted a New Year’s reception in Sacramento featuring some of Japan’s best seafood and sake. Special guests included members of the Japanese House of Representatives Mr. Tatsuya Ito and Mr. Akihisa Nagashima, as well as California State Senators Bob Archuleta, John Laird, and Janet Nguyen, and California State Assemblymembers Mike Fong, Laura Friedman, Ash Kalra, Alex Lee, and Al Muratsuchi.
 
In his remarks, Consul General Osumi praised the robust sub-national relationship between Japan and California that exists on both the governmental level and grassroots level. Representative Ito spoke on the importance of having a strong relationship with the California State Legislature and Representative Nagashima led the gathering in a toast to even stronger and deeper ties between Japan and California. Attendees enjoyed scallops from Hokkaido Prefecture, sake from Fukushima Prefecture, and the Japanese delicacy sea cucumber from Nagasaki Prefecture.
