On Friday, March 1, Kinmon Gakuen, one of the oldest Japanese language schools in San Francisco, held an event for its Kinmon Gakuen Capital Campaign. Consul General Osumi delivered remarks, where he commended the Capital Campaign’s goal to renovate one of the oldest buildings in San Francisco’s Japantown and expand its ability to serve as acenter for the Japanese American community and beyond. He also paid tribute to Kinmon Gakuen’s long history of preserving and sharing Japanese language and culture, and thanked California State Assemblymember Phil Ting, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston (whose district includes Japantown), and District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan, and API Council Member Cally Wong who were in attendance, for their support of the Capital Campaign. In the end, he expressed his hope for the potential that Kinmon Gakuen holds, not just for the Japanese American community, but for non-Japanese communities as well.
