2024/3/22

On Thursday, March 21, Consul General Osumi visited Fremont Union High School District’s (FUHSD) Homestead High School in Cupertino and Lynbrook High School in San Jose to learn more about their Japanese language programs. He was joined by FUHSD administrative staff, board members, principals, and others.
At Homestead High School, the students greeted Consul General Osumi and staff through the traditional Japanese way of showing respect in schools: “kiritsu! (stand up) - ki wo tsuke! (stand straight) - rei! (bow)". They also presented the posters they had made for their J-Night (Japan Night) and Consul General Osumi praised the students for their efforts and creativity. At Lynbrook High School, the Japanese language learners each introduced themselves in Japanese and talked about their interests in Japanese culture. Consul General Osumi engaged the students, and they asked him questions about his favorite places in Japan as well as his life as a Japanese diplomat. Through these visits, Consul General Osumi and staff were able to learn more about the motivations and aspirations of students and teachers of Japanese language.
During his visit. Consul General Osumi had the opportunity to exchange opinions with the board members and principals and acknowledged how FUHSD’S World Language Program opens up doors for the students and showed his support for the program.
