2024 Evening Blossom-Viewing Event at Hakone Gardens
2024/4/3

On Thursday, March 28, Hakone Gardens in Saratoga held a yozakura (evening cherry blossom) event, with Consul General Osumi and Consulate staff joining. Consul Hiroshi Dambara delivered remarks on behalf of Consul General Osumi who later joined the event. He noted Hakone Gardens' significance as a hub for Japanese culture in the South Bay. Attendees enjoyed the Japanese tradition of a bento meal accompanied by Japanese beer and sake while viewing the illuminated cherry blossoms in the clear evening air.
Hakone Gardens were first built in 1915 on what was then the estate of Isabell and Oliver Stine. The gardens have since been developed, kept, and maintained by a diverse series of owners, gardeners, and caretakers. In 1966, the City of Saratoga purchased Hakone Gardens and has since then established the Hakone Foundation for the maintenance and preservation of the garden.
