On Friday, April 5, Consulate staff attended as judges at the 4th Annual Japanese Speech Contest at California State University, Fresno (CSU Fresno), organized by the university’s Japanese Program of the Department of Linguistics. Eighteen student contestants from CSU Fresno, CSU Bakersfield, and Bakersfield College were split into two categories: elementary level and intermediate/advanced level.

As judges, our consulate staff listened to the contestants speak about topics such as their family, study abroad experiences, hobbies, and aspirations. Afterwards, students performed skits and covers of Japanese songs in Japanese.

The consulate extends its sincere congratulations and commends the contestants for their hard work in preparing for this contest. We hope that the students continue cultivating their language skills and continue deepening their knowledge about Japanese culture and customs.
