On Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, the 40th Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival was held in Cupertino’s Memorial Park. Consul General Osumi spoke at the opening ceremony on April 27, congratulating the organizers, Cupertino Toyokawa Sister Cities on the successful 40th holding of the festival and the return of the organization’s middle school exchange program, their first year since the 2019. Consul General Osumi also highlighted the importance of exchange in leading towards deeper interest and understanding of Japanese culture and language, and had the opportunity to congratulate in person the local high school participants of the 2024 Japan Bowl from Lynbrook and Cupertino High Schools. The Japan Bowl is a contest where high schoolers gather from all across the United States to compete on their knowledge about Japan and their Japanese language skills and the two high schools have always placed at the top.

Other speakers at the opening ceremony included, Cupertino Mayor Sheila Mohan and members of the Cupertino City Council, members of the Cupertino Union School District, and the 2024 Cupertino middle school delegates who will visit Toyokawa this summer.
