Consul General and Mrs. Osumi welcome their guests
On Wednesday May 22, Consul General and Mrs. Osumi hosted a reception at their official residence in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Speakers included Claudine Cheng, President of the San Francisco APA Association; Dr. Karen Korematsu, Founder and President of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute, named after her father, late human rights activist Fred Korematsu; and representatives of the City and County of San Francisco. Guests included Consuls General and spouses of other Asia-Pacific nations and members of the San Francisco Asian American community.

The program included a recounting by Dr. Karen Korematsu of the story of her father, Mr. Fred Korematsu, a prominent civil right activist who fought against the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. The program was concluded with a traditional “kagami biraki” (sake cask-opening ceremony) and a toast by San Francisco Chief of Protocol Maryam Muduroglu. Guests also enjoyed other types of sake donated by Ozeki.

We are happy to celebrate Japanese culture with our guests as a part of AAPI Heritage Month.
