On Saturday, June 8, the 36th Santa Cruz Japanese Cultural Fair (JCF) was held in Santa Cruz’s Mission Plaza.

Deputy Consul General Kishimori gave remarks in the opening ceremony highlighting the importance of the cultural festival and grassroots exchanges like sister city programs for the Japan-California relationship. Other speakers included California State Senator John Laird and Mayor Fred Keeley.

The festival featured a full day of Japanese cultural performances, exhibits, and activities for attendees, including aikido demonstrations and taiko performances. Santa Cruz has also shared an active sister city relationship with the city of Shingu in Wakayama Prefecture since 1974. They celebrate the 50th anniversary of the relationship this year.
