California-Japan Legislative Forum Launch Event
2024/6/28

On June 24, Consul General Osumi attended an event celebrating the launch of the newly announced California-Japan Legislative Forum, co-chaired by Senators Josh Newman and Dave Cortese and Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, together with Consul General Sone from Los Angeles. The Forum will enhance cooperation between the legislatures of Japan and California in addressing shared priorities such as climate change, clean energy, and innovation.
Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, and members of the Senate and Assembly, as well as Councillor Iwao Horii of the National Diet of Japan came to celebrate the establishment of the Forum. Councillor Horii has deep ties to California, having been instrumental in launching the Senate’s ongoing series of policy trips to Japan when working at the Consulate General in San Francisco 30 years ago. He is also a founding member of the Japan-California Parliamentary Friendship League of the Diet’s House of Councillors, launched in 2014.
Representatives from organizations including the Japan Society of Northern California (JSNC), the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California (JCCNC), the U.S.-Japan Council (USJC), the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) also attended the launch event. As part of the event, members of Redwood Kyudojo demonstrated traditional Ogasawara-ryu archery with the three co-chairs.
