2024 San Francisco Obon Festival
2024/7/29

On Sunday, July 28, Consul General Osumi joined the second day of the San Francisco Obon Festival, organized by the Buddhist Church of San Francisco in San Francisco Japantown. Addressing the audience before dancing, Consul General Osumi expressed his admiration for the Japantown and Japanese American community in preserving Japanese traditions and maintaining a strong connection with Japan.
One of this year’s featured dances at the event was a Bon Odori to the EXPO 2025 theme song “Kono Hoshi no Tsuzuki wo” by Japanese duo KOBUKURO, promoting EXPO 2025 held in Osaka, Kansai, Japan in April through October 2025.
Obon is an annual Japanese Buddhist tradition when people remember those who have passed away and honor them with communal dancing in a large circle.
