Remarks by Kanagawa Governor Yuji Kuroiwa
On Monday, July 29, Consul General Yo Osumi delivered remarks at the opening plenary session of Japan – US Research Collaboration Week, an event designed to connect researchers in Japan and the US and bring together various representatives from industry, academia, and government. The event, hosted by Stanford University School of Medicine and the Japan Science and Technology Agency, aims to help promote international scientific discovery and innovation. In his speech, Consul General Osumi expressed his hope for – and the importance of – continued collaboration between Japan and the US to help ensure that the business sector and general public can reap the benefits of cutting-edge science.

Later in the day, Deputy Consul General Hajime Kishimori attended the World Bosai Forum, where startups and researchers from Japan and the U.S., as well as investors, discussed how the private sector and academia could work together to prepare for and manage the effects of natural disasters.

Other sessions focused on pressing issues in the scientific community, such as space telecommunications, the deep-tech startup ecosystem, sustainable energy and materials, and fostering scientific talent.
