Welcome Reception for Honorary Consul of Japan in Fresno Dr. Joy J. Goto

On Thursday, August 8th, Consul General Yo Osumi hosted a reception at Fresno State in honor of the new Honorary Consul of Japan in Fresno, Dr. Joy J. Goto. Honorary Consul Goto served as the Governor of the Central California District Council of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), and currently serve as the treasurer of the Fresno JACL. She is also the Interim Dean of the Division of Research and Graduate Studies at Fresno State. Honorary Consul Goto has been actively involved with the Japanese community in Fresno area and expressed her enthusiasm to continue building connections between Japan and Fresno during the reception.
The reception was attended by elected officials, members of the local Fresno community, and members of the Fresno Consular Corps, as well as elected officials. Congressman Jim Costa and Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer were among those who gave remarks. Fresno County Supervisor Sal Quintero and a district representative from State Senator Anna Caballero’s office each presented Honorary Consul Goto with Certificates of Recognition to acknowledge her appointment.
Guests enjoyed the evening and welcomed Honorary Consul Goto in her new position.
