“Bosai Forum” Disaster Prevention Seminar & Reception
2024/10/29

On Wednesday, October 23, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco co-hosted a Disaster Prevention Seminar onboard the Historic Klamath with the support of the Bay Area Council and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Northern California.
The Seminar brought together guests representing government agencies, local academia, technology companies, and the San Francisco Consular Corps to discuss important topics relating to disaster preparedness.
Consul General Yo Osumi welcomed attendees with an overview of natural disaster risks shared by Japan and California, followed by Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula’s recounting of a recent CA Assembly delegation to study Japan’s emergency management systems. Guests then heard from public and private sector representatives on topics ranging from emergency preparedness (Cal OES, SF Fire Dept), detection technology (UC Berkeley, GEO SEARCH, Obayashi Inc), and international cooperation (State Dept OFM, Consular Corps, Airbnb.org).
Later that evening, Consul General Osumi hosted a reception at his residence to encourage further conversation between members of the emergency management community.
