2024/11/14

On Friday, November 8, Consul General Yo Osumi hosted a gathering of US Servicemembers and guests from the local community to celebrate the longstanding Japan-US relationship, the ongoing work of US Forces in Japan, and international partnerships helping keep the peace across Asia and the Pacific.
The evening began with an operatic performance of the Star Spangled Banner and Kimigayo by Ms. Erica Thelen of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Consul General Osumi then delivered his remarks, noting the strong Japan-U.S. alliance and the contributions of Japanese Americans in the past.
Attendees then heard from Colonel Jason Perry, Senior Marine Representative at the Naval Postgraduate School, about ongoing exchanges between the United States and Japan; and Ms. Naomi Shibata spoke about the history of Japanese Americans who helped found the US Military Intelligence Service in 1942, predecessor of the modern-day Defense Language Institute in Monterey.
