Japan Flag-Raising Ceremony at San Francisco City Hall

On Thursday, February 20, a flag-raising ceremony was held at San Francisco City Hall in honor of the 65th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on February 23. Consul General Yo Osumi and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie together raised Japan’s national flag and each delivered remarks. Consul General Osumi was also presented with a Proclamation of Japanese-American Friendship and Heritage Day by Mayor Lurie.

Representatives from the San Francisco government and members of the Bay Area Japanese and Japanese American community also attended the ceremony celebrating the Emperor’s Birthday and the continued friendship between Japan and San Francisco. On the evening of Sunday, February 23, City Hall will be illuminated with the colors of the Japanese flag.
