The 56th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage

On Saturday, April 26, Consul General Yo Osumi participated in the 56th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage held at Manzanar National Park Historic Site, organized by the Manzanar Committee. Prior to the ceremony, Consul General Osumi toured the camp with the guide from the National Park ranger, and dedicated flowers with Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California (JCCNC) President Kazuhiro Gomi at the Manzanar Cemetery Monument.
Manzanar National Park Historic Site was one of the camps during World War II in which more than 10,000 individuals of Japanese descent were incarcerated. The Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage is held to educate and raise public awareness about the history of incarceration.
