On Sunday, April 27, Consul General Yo Osumi spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Nikkei Matsuri in San Jose Japantown. In his remarks, he congratulated the festival organizers on their hard work to share the Japanese American experience and Japanese culture through the festival, and praised the strength of the San Jose Japantown community. Also speaking in the ceremony were Nikkei Matsuri Foundation President Kelli Saito Martines and Santa Clara County Supervisors Betty Duong and Margaret Abe-Koga.
 
Nikkei Matsuri is an annual event held in San Jose Japantown which celebrates the San Jose Japantown community, Japanese culture, and the Japanese American experience through performances, displays, and a street fair. The Consulate held a booth with information on EXPO 2025 in Osaka Kansai, Japanese Language educational resources; travel in Japan; and the JET Program.
