On Wednesday, April 30, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco teamed up with DNX Ventures to host the Japan-US Cybersecurity Summit at Digital Garage in San Francisco, happening in conjunction with the “RSA Conference,” the nation’s biggest cybersecurity conference. The event began with opening remarks from Consul General Yo Osumi, who expressed a hope that the event would strengthen cross-border ties in the cybersecurity industry, enabling Japan and the US to strengthen protections of their digital infrastructure.
Following the Consul General’s remarks, there was a presentation on cybersecurity trends and RSA insights by Kris Harms, Principal at DNX Ventures and a panel discussion featuring representatives from Hitachi Solutions and Takachiho Koheki on the experiences of Japanese Venture Capitalists in Silicon Valley. Afterwards, special guest Takashi Michikata, representing the Office of the Director-General for Cybersecurity at Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), detailed Japan’s cybersecurity policy.
Later, three cybersecurity startups from the US (Opnova, Netrise, and Xbow) pitched their creative security solutions to the audience. Finally, generative-AI pioneer Anthropic and cybersecurity company Arctic Wolf gave a presentation on a joint project intended help industry professionals better assess the security needs of their organizations.
Following the presentations, the event opened up into a happy hour with Japanese sushi and whiskey, where professionals from different corners of the cybersecurity ecosystem were able to make new connections.
