Consulate staff gives a presentation on studying abroad in Japan
Students take turns reading kamishibai stories to each other
On Monday, May 19, two Consulate staff gave presentations at Rancho San Juan High School in Salinas, Los Arboles Middle School in Marina and Monterey High School in Monterey as part of the Japan in the Classroom School Visit Program.

At Rancho San Juan High School, the talk began with presentations on information for studying abroad in Japan, the MEXT Japanese Government Scholarships, and working abroad in Japan through the JET Program. The visit concluded with an activity introducing kamishibai as a way to relate to what the students were learning in their previous unit on Japanese folktales. Students had fun reading kamishibai to one another
Consulate staff gives a presentation on Japanese School Life
The students at Los Arboles Middle school listened to a presentation about school life for middle school and high school students in Japan. They tested what they already knew from pop culture in a true or false quiz, then gave insightful comments on the similarities and differences that they noticed between school life in America.

School administrators and school district staff came to observe the school visit. Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD) Board Member Jeff Uchida and Principal Leland Hansen expressed how impressed they were with the respectful and diligent attitude of the Japanese language students at Los Arboles Middle School.
Finally, Monterey High School students also listened to a presentation about school life for middle school and high school students in Japan. They gave their own comments about the similarities and differences of Japan and American school life.
