Consul General’s Commendation Presented to Reiko Iwanaga at 2025 San Jose Obon Festival

Consul General Osumi presents the certificate to Ms. Iwanaga
On Saturday, July 12, Consul General Yo Osumi attended the first day of the 2025 San Jose Obon festival held in San Jose Japantown by the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin. During the speakers ceremony, Consul General Osumi shared the significance of Obon in Japan, congratulated San Jose Obon on the great number of bon odori dancers, and recognizing Reverend Gerald Sakamoto for his 39 years of service.. Consul General Osumi concluded by presenting the Consul General’s commendation to Ms. Adrienne Reiko Iwanaga, former Head Odori (dance) Instructor of San Jose Obon , for her contributions to promoting Japanese culture and friendship with Japan.
 
United States Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and California State Senator Dave Cortese also spoke, recognizing the festival’s significant role in the community.
 
This year, 1,726 dancers participated in Bon dancing on Saturday with many others watching.
