Brig. Gen. Friedel is presented with the certificate of decoration by Consul General Osumi
On Monday, July 14, Consul General Yo Osumi presented the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon to Brigadier General Jesse J. Friedel, former Deputy Commander of the Fifth Air Force at Yokota Air Force Base. Brig. Gen. Friedel was recognized in the 2025 Spring Conferment of Japanese Decorations in honor of outstanding achievements in promoting security cooperation between Japan and the United States.
Brig. Gen. Friedel also served with US Forces in Japan as Commander of the 35th Fighter Wing at Misawa AFB prior to his assignment at Yokota AFB. During his tenure Brig. Gen. Friedel was instrumental in improving operational command coordination, as well as planning advanced training exercises and exchanges between officials.
In his acceptable remarks, Brig. Gen. Friedel expressed his honor and gratitude for receiving the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, his experiences in Japan, memories of his family, and the unwavering strength of the Japan-U.S. alliance demonstrated through search and rescue activities during natural disasters, as well as his love and affinity for Japan.
