Position Available: General Affairs Section Assistant (Protocol)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative assistance within the General Affairs section and assistance to the Consul General and the Deputy Consul General of Japan
- Maintain schedule and coordinate internal and external meetings and appointments
- Handle mail and incoming phone calls
- Draft and edit speeches, letters, and other official documents.
- Event preparation including greeting visitors, food and drink service when required
- Conduct research and keep Consulate officers informed of topics of interest
- Organize official events and programs at Consulate facilities
- Other duties as directed by supervisor
Desired Skills and Experiences:,/span>
- Experience working as a clerk or executive secretary preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (native or native-level) in English
- Ability to communicate and cooperate effectively with coworkers and community
- Japanese language ability is a plus but not requiredBasic office work skills including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, the internet, and E-mail are required.)
- Working knowledge of cultural events, restaurants (Japanese or otherwise), networking functions, etc. in the Consulate’s jurisdiction, especially the San Francisco Bay Area
Working Conditions:
- Employment is projected to start on September, 2025
- Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. Working weekends or past 5pm may be requested of staff by the Consulate when necessary
- Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays defined by the Consulate are nonworking days
- Paid vacation, sick leave and optional health insurance support are provided after the completion of a three-month probationary period.
- Starting salary will be roughly 50,000 USD. Yearly raise may be decided based on work performance.
