On Saturday, September 13, Consul General Kotaro Otsuki joined the groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of renovations for Kinmon Gakuen in San Francisco Japantown. During his remarks, Consul General Otsuki celebrated the anticipated improvements and expressed his appreciation for Kinmon Gakuen’s contributions towards the promotion of sharing Japanese language and culture.
 
San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie, San Francisco Supervisors Bilal Mahmood and Connie Chan, and former California Assemblymember Phil Ting were also in attendance, commemorating the groundbreaking for the renovation of the 114-year-old Japanese language school alongside students, alumni, and Japantown community members.
 
Kinmon Gakuen’s renovations include improvements to the historic building as well as upgrades to community-use spaces.
