Consul General’s Commendation to Beau Timken
On Saturday, September 27, Consul General Kotaro Otsuki presented the Consul General’s Commendation to True Sake and SAKE DAY founder Beau Timken in honor of the 20th anniversary of one of the largest celebrations of sake outside Japan. Mr. Timken opened True Sake in 2003 as ’America’s First Sake Store’, and organized the original SAKE DAY in 2005. Over the past two decades Mr. Timken has contributed greatly to growing interest, access, and understanding of sake for veteran connoisseurs and newcomers alike.

Currently, this event is held in collaboration with the Japan Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, bringing together newcomers and veterans alike to sample over 300 types of sake from vendors in both Japan and US. Annual proceeds of the event benefit San Francisco Japantown and promote Japanese cultural awareness in California.
