Consul General Otsuki commends Soko Hardware on 100 years
The Ashizawa family accepts the Consul General’s commendation
On Saturday, September 27, Consul General Kotaro Otsuki joined the 100th Anniversary Celebration for Soko Hardware in San Francisco Japantown. On this occasion, he presented the Consul General’s Commendation to the legacy business, which was received by current owners Phillip and Eunice Ashizawa in recognition for over a century contributing to the Japan-California relationship. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood also spoke and presented Soko Hardware with commendations.
 
Founded in 1925 by current third-generation owner Phillip Ashizawa’s grandparents Masasayu and Naka Ashizawa, Soko Hardware is a purveyor of Japanese and western construction tools and materials, home furnishings and appliances, and even cultural and festival goods, supporting the traditions in the Japanese American community.
