The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco presents “The Way of Tea 2026”. This program seeks to introduce students to Japanese culture and language by way of the tea ceremony in an authentic tea room setting. This year, we are offering 8 sessions for classes of elementary through college level students to be held in San Francisco. Each of these 2-hour lessons will be led by Urasenke Foundation San Francisco and will consist of an introduction to Japanese tea and a hands-on portion in which students will participate in an actual tea gathering in a tearoom.

  • This free program is a fantastic opportunity for Japanese language classes, social studies classes, and cultural clubs. Japanese language experience is not necessary.
  • This program incorporates sitting for long periods of time, handling of delicate utensils, and opportunities to practice Japanese language; please keep this in mind when considering if this program is appropriate for your class
  • This program is intended for classes of students, and not for private individuals.
  • Group sizes are limited to a maximum of 25 students.
  • Registration and selection required to participate.
  • Schools/Organizations are responsible for their own transportation to and from the venue.
