On Wednesday, October 22,  Consulate staff visited Mills High School in Millbrae to introduce shodo, or Japanese Calligraphy, to their Japanese language students as part of the Japan in the Classroom School Visit Program.

The visit began with a Consulate staff giving a presentation introducing the background and the basics of shodo. Students were shown different examples of shodo pieces and were asked to identify the kanji they recognized from what they learned in their Japanese class.

Finally, students picked up fude brushes for the first time and enjoyed practicing shodo by writing out their favorite Japanese words and characters.
