The Consular and Security Section of the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco is recruiting locally hired staff to handle consular duties as follows.
1. Hiring period
Early March 20262. Job Description
The primary duties within the Consular and Security Section include the following:- All visa-related duties from accepting visa applications to issuance and delivery
- All passport and certificate operations, from application to creation and issuance
- Handling inquiries from applicants at the consular counter and responding to telephone and email inquiries
- Editing the consulate's website
- Other duties as separately assigned by the Consulate, including security and assistance to Japanese nationals
3. Compensation
- Annual salary starts at approximately $50,000, subject to adjustment based on individual experience.
- After a three-month probationary period following the start of employment, paid leave and sick leave will be granted, and support for enrollment in voluntary health insurance will be provided.
- Commuting allowance is not provided.
4. Working Hours
Hours are generally from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with a lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM).Overtime may be required as needed.

6. Qualifications
- U.S. permanent resident or U.S. citizen
- Must possess sufficient Japanese and English language skills to perform duties without hindrance.
- Proficiency in computer-based tasks such as document creation.
- Possesses excellent communication skills and ability to perform duties with an emphasis on teamwork.
7. Selection Process
Selection will be conducted through a first screening (document review) and a second screening (personal interview).
