Attendees tour Hakone Garden
On Thursday, March 5, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, in partnership with Hakone Foundation, held an afternoon program for students introducing Japanese culture at Hakone Estate and Garden in Saratoga. Consul General Kotaro Otsuki, Santa Clara County District 5 Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga, and Hakone Foundation Executive Director Meredith Lee welcomed students to the event, speaking on this great variety of Japanese culture locally available throughout the Bay Area, and the significance of learning Japanese language.
About 30 students, teachers, parents, and administrators joined the program which featured a tour of Hakone Gardens, a hands-on sumie ink-painting workshop, and concluded with an interactive performance and workshop from UZUMARU Yosakoi dance group. Attendees were able to learn about extensive opportunities to engage with Japanese culture and language in and outside of the classroom. We are grateful to Otsuka America, Inc. for providing Pocari Sweat for all of our attendees, performers, and partners.
