On Friday, March 6, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, in partnership with UC Berkeley Residential Life, held a program for students introducing Japanese culture at UC Berkeley. Japanese Language Lecturer Ms. Jing Liu and Center for Support, and Intervention Dean of Students and Assistant Director Mr. James Kato welcomed students to the event.
Over 40 students joined the program which featured a performance and workshop by Ito Yosakoi and Okinawan dance, music, and drumming by the Northern California Okinawa Kenjin Kai (NCOKK). Participants learned about the diversity of culture in Japan and local resources to learn more. Consulate staff also presented on Japan-related opportunities, including the JET Program and studying in Japan. We are grateful to Otsuka America, Inc. for providing Pocari Sweat for all of our attendees, performers, and partners.
