Deputy Consul General Ishihara Attends “DeepTech Innovation: Japanese University Showcase” Event

Remarks by Professor Sone
On Wednesday, March 11, Deputy Consul General Takeshi Ishihara joined “DeepTech Innovations: Japanese Universities Showcase,” an event spotlighting companies and research emerging from leading Japanese universities. The event was hosted by the University of Osaka Co-Creation Bureau, Osaka University Venture Capital (OUVC), the Japan Society of Northern California (JSNC) and the National Innovation Network for Entrepreneur Japan (NINEJP) and held at the Japan Innovation Campus in Palo Alto.

The event began with remarks from Specially Appointed Professor Ichiro Sone and Professor Shigenori Hata of the University of Osaka Co-Creation Bureau. Professor Sone spoke about the university’s efforts to commercialize its research while Professor Hata discussed NINEJP’s work to link university innovation ecosystems across Japan.

Afterward, representatives from the University of Osaka, Kyoto University, Kyushu University, and the University of Nagoya gave presentations on their research and efforts to spin their cutting-edge technologies out into startups. Researchers who had established startups based on their technologies also presented their work, including companies such as Errai Corporation and ayumo inc. Presenters covered topics such as advanced battery materials, green hydrogen production, AI-driven medical technologies, next-generation semiconductor devices, and innovative diagnostic and imaging tools.

Finally, Yuki Taga, Investment Director at OUVC, gave remarks on his organization’s efforts to fund startups based on university research. The event concluded with closing remarks from Deputy Consul General Ishihara, who expressed hope that the event would encourage greater international collaboration between startups built on high-quality research in Japan and the United States. The program ended with a networking reception.
