On Wednesday, March 25, the Consulate General of Japan and San Francisco Public Library co-hosted a special program, “Sake 101,” about Japan’s traditional alcoholic beverage. Deputy Consul General Takeshi Ishihara greeted the crowd at the Main Library, where guests learned about the world of sake from U.S. liaison of the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association and certified kikizakeshi Tamiko Ishidate, followed by a guided tasting of three types of sake and a Q&A session. Many attendees continued to ask questions to Ms. Ishidate even after the program ended, demonstrating strong interest in sake.
