Remarks by Mayor Stapp and Supervisor Hopkins
On Sunday, May 17, Deputy Consul General Takeshi Ishihara joined the opening ceremony of the “Sonoma County Matsuri! Japanese Arts Festival” held at Juilliard Park in Santa Rosa, expressing his appreciation for the festival organizers and the long, multifaceted history of friendship between Japan and Sonoma County. Santa Rosa Mayor Mark Stapp and Sonoma County Supervisor Lynda Hopkins also gave remarks.

This year’s event featured a full day of Japanese cultural performances and demonstrations, including sumo, taiko, dance, and ikebana, as well as food and information booths. At our Consulate’s booth, staff provided information on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, studying in Japan, and travel.
