2026/6/18
Meeting with UNR Global Engagement team
Presentation by GOED
On Thursday, June 4, the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco partnered with the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) to bring a delegation of Japanese semiconductor industry representatives from Rapidus Design Solutions, Azbil USA, Taica North America, SMC Corporation, and others to Nevada to learn more about the region’s growing semiconductor ecosystem and workforce development initiatives.

The delegation began at UNR, where they met with university, government, and economic development leaders, including Dean Thomas Weller of UNR’s College of Engineering, who provided an overview of the university’s workforce programming. Afterwards, representatives from GOED and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) provided information on Nevada’s efforts to support business growth and investment, including state incentives and relocation assistance programs. UNR professors also presented on the university’s  research on semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, and robotics. Following the presentations, the delegation toured UNR’s nanofabrication lab and other research facilities.

After a networking lunch, the delegation visited the Asia Union Electronic Chemical Corporation (AUECC) campus and the HORIBA Reno Technology Center, where participants toured their facilities and learned more about ongoing projects at both companies. The visit provided an opportunity for Japanese and Nevadan semiconductor industry representatives to establish relationships and explore future collaboration opportunities.
