On Wednesday, August 12, Consul General Kotaro Otsuki visited Sacramento and met with the California State Senate majority and minority leaders and several other state senators. Discussions included the longstanding economic ties between Japan and California, as well as plans for future exchanges between Japanese and Californian legislators.
According to the 2026 FDI Report provided by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, Japan is California's largest source of foreign-owned enterprise employment (FOE), creating 130,000 jobs. Japan also ranks first in California in number of FOE establishments, with 3,500 establishments creating an estimated $15.6 billion in wages.
