On Sunday, September 27, Deputy Consul General Takeshi Ishihara joined the 120th Anniversary Celebration for Takahashi Market in San Mateo. On this occasion, he presented the Consul General’s Commendation to the legacy business, which was received by current owner Gene Takahashi in recognition of 120 years contributing to the Japan-California relationship. San Mateo Mayor Adam Loraine and other guests also spoke and presented a commendation.
Founded in 1906 by current third-generation owner Gene Takahashi’s grandfather Tokutaro Takahashi, Takahashi Market has served the San Mateo and wider Bay Area Japanese and Japanese American community from meeting the needs of the region’s early agrarian and piscatorial roots to its modern-day offerings of Japanese and Hawaiian groceries, and hot meals.
