On Tuesday, October 20, Consul General Kotaro Otsuki attended a 40th anniversary luncheon at the Triton Art Museum in Santa Clara, hosted by the City of Santa Clara. The luncheon welcomed a visiting delegation from their sister city of Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, led by Mayor Toshiyuki Iitsuka. Since establishing their sister city relationship in 1986, the two cities have maintained an active exchange of student and adult delegations and are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.

The reception was attended by Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor, Vice Mayor Albert Gonzalez, Councilmembers Raj Chahal, Karen Hardy, Kevin Park, and Suds Jain, other city representatives, Santa Clara Sister Cities Association (SCSCA) President Margaret Horoszko, SCSCA board members, and other associates.

Consul General Otsuki praised the 40 years of active exchange between the two cities and presented the Consul General’s Commendation to the SCSCA for their long and dedicated service to the sister city relationship. SCSCA has an active youth commission that helps plan for the incoming and outgoing delegations. SCSCA also supports the activities of sister cities student clubs on all three high school campuses in Santa Clara, who among other activities help table booths at city fairs.
