Cultural Exchange Visit by Takata High School
2016/6/22
14 students and 4 staff members from Takata High School in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture visited Del Norte High School in Crescent City, California from Monday, January 5th to Friday, January 9th.
A small boat belonging to Takata High School was washed out to sea by the tsunami from the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in March 2011. In April 2013, the boat washed ashore in Crescent City, where several Del Norte High School students played a central role in returning the boat to Takata High School. The two schools took this opportunity to begin cultural exchange activities, which led to this visit. During their stay, the Takata High School students visited the place where the boat washed ashore. They also exchanged information related to tsunamis with the students from Del Norte High School and deepened their friendships with them.
On Saturday, January 10th, they engaged in a dialogue related to this cultural exchange event with Deputy Consul General Watanabe at the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco.
