JUNBA 2015 Symposium and Summit

On January 8 and 9, JUNBA (Japanese University Network in the Bay Area) hosted its 9th Symposium and Summit by inviting leaders and executive faculty members from universities in Northern California and Japan. The Consulate General of Japan was a co-organizer of the event in conjunction with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

On the theme of "Governance as a Major Leverage Tool for Improving Quality in Higher Education”, two executive faculty members from University of California delivered keynote speeches on governance within the UC system. After the presentation by an official of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, representatives from major Japanese universities gave presentations on the efforts of their respective universities to assure good governance and a lively exchange of views took place. During the two-day JUNBA meeting, Consul General Masato Watanabe gave a welcome speech at the Reception for Academic Exchange between Japanese and U.S. Universities, and also gave opening remarks at the summit. In his speech, he expressed his hope for JUNBA to further promote academic and personnel exchanges between Japanese and American universities.
