New Year’s Cocktail Reception in Nevada

2016/6/22
On January 22nd, Consul General Masato Watanabe, together with Honorary Consul General in Las Vegas Kathleen Blakely, hosted a New Year’s celebration in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Approximately 80 guests joined the reception including Nevada State Assemblymembers Ellen Spiegel and Victoria Seaman, representatives of state and local governments, members of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Nevada and local Japan-affiliated companies, members of community organizations, and educators.

In his remarks, Consul General Watanabe expressed his appreciation for the efforts and hard work by all the guests to promote Nevada-Japan relations in various ways, across so many different fields. Following the Consul General’s comments, Assemblymember Spiegel presented a certificate to Consul General Watanabe. After the Assemblymember’s comments, representatives from the offices of Congresswoman Dina Titus, Congressman Joe Heck, and Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison also presented certificates to Consul General Watanabe.

Following these speeches, a toast was led by British rakugo performer Diane Kichijitsu, who happened to be in Las Vegas for her performances. Ms. Kichijitsu also gave a short lecture on rakugo (traditional art of Japanese comedic storytelling) to the guests.

Several posters were displayed around the room to introduce and promote Japanese culture and tourism. Guests enjoyed refreshments and lively conversation for the remainder of the evening.
