2015 Red Cross Gala Consulate Reception

On January 28, Consul General and Mrs. Watanabe hosted a Consulate Reception in anticipation of the 2015 Red Cross Gala. Approximately 120 guests attended, including sponsors of the humanitarian efforts the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter, Gala Committee members, and Japanese business and community leaders based in the Bay Area.

In his remarks, Consul General Watanabe expressed his admiration for the hard work done by Red Cross staff that he had witnessed throughout his diplomatic career in various parts of the world. He also said the people of Japan would never forget the generous support extended by the American Red Cross after the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

After the remarks, a Consul General’s Commendation was presented to Mr. Hiro Ogawa who, together with his late wife Betty, has long supported Red Cross efforts and contributed to the promotion of Japanese culture and bilateral exchanges between Japan and the United States. The Ogawa family received a commendation from the American Red Cross as well.

During the reception, Mr. Anthony Earley, Chairman and CEO of PG&E Corporation and the Red Cross Philanthropic CEO of the Year, delivered his speech. All the guests at the reception praised Mr. Earley for his leadership and contributions through his philanthropic activities.
