Prime Minister Abe’s wife donates Japanese books to Presidio Middle School

2016/6/23
On Monday, May 18, Acting Consul General Watanabe representing the Consulate General of Japan paid a visit to the Japanese Bilingual Bicultural Program (JBBP) at Presidio Middle School, the only one Middle School of its kind in San Francisco, to attend a presentation ceremony donating a set of Japanese books that the Prime Minister’s wife brought with her during Prime Minister Abe’s visit to San Francisco on April 30. Attending the donation ceremony was the school Principal Mr. Tony Payne, and Japanese teacher, Ms. Tanaka. At the ceremony standing before the assembled 6th graders of Ms. Tanaka’s class, Principal Payne received a catalog of the donated books.

ACG Watanabe mentioned that Mrs. Abe takes a keen interest in Japanese language education abroad and whenever she travels to another country, she makes sure to visit the Japanese language schools in that country and donate sets of books in Japanese to encourage Japanese language education in that country. On this past visit to San Francisco in addition to visiting the JBBP Program at Rosa Parks Elementary School, she wanted to donate a set of books to Presidio Middle School to encourage the students learning Japanese. In his parting words, ACG Watanabe said that he hoped the students would continue with their Japanese studies and strive to become bridges between the US and Japan.
