Commemorative event for new picture book on US-Japan cultural exchangen

2016/7/2
On Saturday, January 16, an event was held at the National Japanese American Historical Society in San Francisco’s Japantown to commemorate the publication of a new picture book. The story highlights cultural exchange between high school students in the US and Japan. Consul General Jun Yamada attended the event.

This picture book was inspired by a small training boat belonging to Takata High School in Iwate, Japan. The boat washed ashore in Crescent City, California, after being swept to sea by the tsunami that followed the Great East Japan Earthquake. This heartwarming true story describes the cultural exchange between high school students in both countries, as well as how the boat was returned to Japan.
