Consul General’s Commendation Awarded to Asian Art Museum; Annual Bell Ringing Ceremony
2017/1/5

On Saturday, December 31, Consul General Yamada attended the Annual Japanese New Year’s Bell Ringing Ceremony held by the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. During this event, now in its 31st year, attendees have the chance to experience a Japanese New Year tradition locally by closing out the previous year and ringing in the new.
This year, in recognition of the Asian Art Museum’s longstanding contributions in fostering understanding of Japanese art and culture, Consul General Yamada awarded his commendation to the institution, which was received by Dr. Jay Xu, Director of the Museum.
The bell ringing ceremony, in which more than 200 people participated, began with a purification ritual and chanting of the Buddhist Heart Sutra by Reverend Gengo Akiba. Consul General Yamada then rang the bell, followed by members of the Museum and general public.
