Japanese Company School Visit Program

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Northern California (JCCNC) partners with their member companies to organize visits to schools in Northern California. During these visits, these Japanese companies present an overview of their businesses to students. Companies from many different industries participate in this school visit program.
 

Program Objectives

By having Japanese companies visit local schools, JCCNC and the Consulate aim to foster a greater understanding of Japan, Japan’s place in the world, and Japan-US relations. It is our hope that through these school visits, your students will be inspired to continue their learning outside of the classroom and expand their outlook on the world.

Students can get an in-depth look at career fields they are interested in and can acquire the knowledge and skills that directly connect to their future careers..

 

How to Apply

We will be taking requests for this program on a case-by-case basis.
We request that teachers give us at least one month advance notice so that we can coordinate with JCCNC and adequately prepare.
If your requested date is unavailable, we will do our best to arrange a mutually convenient date.

• What type of company/business/industry are you interested in?

※Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will be able to match the requested company/business/industry. It depends on the availability of the company so there is a possibility that we will not be able to meet your request. We apologize for the inconvenience.

• Class time
• Preferred Dates (list at least 5 starting from the following month)
• Number of students in class
• Level of students’ Japanese language ability (Japanese is not required)
• School District Policies and Procedures on supplemental instructional materials, external guests, etc. (anything that we should be aware of)

1. Are there any restrictions to what you can do?
We will take requests on a case-by-caser basis and determine the availability of the Japanese companies of your interested fields to ultimately decide on the school visit date and content. If we cannot arrange a visit with a company of the interested fields you specified, we might suggest substitute companies that are available, or other programs introducing Japanese culture from the Consulate.

Depending on the amount of requests we recieve, we will be limiting the frequency of these school visits to once every two to three months.

2. How long are your presentations?
Our presentations typically last approximately one hour.

3. Is this program just for teachers of Japanese?
We are happy to entertain requests from teachers of other subjects teaching about Japan in their curriculum. The majority of our school visits focus on elementary, middle, and high school classes, but presentations to local colleges and universities can be arranged upon special request.

4. Can we come and visit the Japanese companies' facilities instead?
Once we recieve your request, we can discuss to determine the possibility of arranging this. We cannot guarantee that this will be possible.
