She is a participant in the Asia Pacific Leadership Program at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has a long-standing interest in the Asia-Pacific region as demonstrated by her time at the Asia Society and commitment to the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET). Ms. Rivera is a former JET participant, and served for two years as President of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Alumni Association of Northern California and Nevada. Following her experience as a JET in Hokkaido, she remained in Japan and established METS English School's first culture and language classes for children with special needs.

Lane Rettig
He is currently studying computer science and Japanese at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2003, he went abroad for one year to Tohoku University in Japan, where he studied Japanese and engineering. In May 2005, Lane was selected as the recipient of the Japan Studies Scholarship, and in July of the same year, he attended the Japan America Student Conference.
Mr. Rettig was awarded with Univeristy of California, Berkeley's 2006 University Medal, the highest honor for a graduating senior at UC Berkeley.
